Here it is, 7 days past our original arrival date and we are still roughly 700 miles away and we have been in Snowville Utah for the past 2 days.
But I know there is some action missing from the adventure.
After we last left off Jp had a little stomach bug, that passed quickly thankfully. After that it was smooth sailing till we hit Wyoming. We decided to stop early for the night on Thursday so we could get some good sleep and start off bright and early the next day and drive tillw e could drive no more. BIG mistake. We woke Friday morning to some seriously dense fog. No real ybigie there until we looked out the window while we were getting ready and it was snowing. I will say we got roughly a half inch in 30 minutes. So we decided to grab some breakfast at the little diner next door and see how the snow did. It started slowing down after about 2inches had accumulated so we got on the road.
Things were going decent, as well as it can go when you are in a windy snow storm, until we got up into the Medicine Bow national park thingy…. That’s when all hell broke loose. We were taking it slowly, around 40 mph when the speed limit was 75, trough the dense fog and blowing snow when I look into my rear view mirror and see the UHaul take a sharp left and slam into the median causing the trailer to jack knife.
All in all a shitty day. I ttook about 5ish hours to get the uhaul out and driven back along with a $500 bill. Bunch of BS. Everyone was OK though, minus Jim, he strained his kne and ankle when he jumped out of a moving vehicle and ran 1/4 miles back to the uhaul to make sure John was OK.
SO we were stuck once again, in Laramie Wyoming.
We get onthe road again and make good time. We stop in Ogden Utah for the night then head out before noon the next day, no problems. We get as far as Snowville Utah and decide to rotate the tires ont eh trailer since they arewearing unevenly since the wreck. All goes great till Jim decides to check the trailer brakes. Guess what, they dont work! So we call UHaul and get a huge run around after 2 hours and such and find out that none of their trucks are equipped with electronic trailer brake controllers. That ALL of their trucks had the 4pin flat connector. WRONG ours has the 7 pin round it has all of the wiring for hte trailer brakes along with it listed onthe fuse panel. So something is effed up here. After a bunch of drama we decide to calla round to local rental places adn found a nice 2010 Chevy Silvarado 2500 4×4 with everything we need built right in, brake controller and all. The only downfall was, one tha twe didnt realize til we drove the 75 miles back to Snowville.. the hitch receiver was too big. SO we rushed allthe way to Trementon to get a reducer. THe NAPA guys stayed after they clsoed till we got there. Talk about cool of them.
SO we stayed another night in this lil podunk town. Got up early this morning and the guys headed to get the tools theyu couldnt find. they are back now I suppose and wrking on switching things around. We should be on the road shortly and do not plan on stopping in another hotel, period. We drive till we get home.
This trip has to end soon before I completely lose my sanity. The children are driving us all crazy, but its understood, they are bored and cramped up in a small room then in a small car.
Are we home yet?
